Having doubts about whether your skin is benefiting from the skincare routine you follow each day?

Sometimes, for a variety of reasons, a skincare routine may not work in the way that it should, meaning that it’s time to make some changes. How do you know if this is the case for you? Keep reading as Avinichi shares seven signs that indicate that your skincare routine could do with a bit of an overhaul:

1) The Seasons Have Changed

Noni Night Repair Cream

While you won’t need a completely different skincare routine for each of the four seasons, your skin’s needs change pretty drastically between summer and winter. If you want your skin to thrive, your skincare routine needs to adapt to these seasonal fluctuations too.

How? In the warmer months, your skin produces more sebum, meaning that lighter formulas are a must in order to avoid clogged pores. You’ll need products that will hydrate your skin and provide plenty of antioxidants to combat the appearance of UV damage without weighing your skin down, just like the Mulberry Velvet Silk Creme from the Avinichi Hydrating Mulberry Collection.

In the winter, however, sebum production slows down, often leaving the skin lacking. The air is also much drier, meaning that moisture loss speeds up. To counter this, your skincare routine will need to consist of richer products, like the Avinichi Noni Night Repair Cream.

If you don’t change your skincare routine with the seasons, you’ll likely encounter various skin problems as each new season arrives. From oiliness and breakouts in the summer to dullness and roughness in the winter, it’s always wise to stay one step ahead of your skin’s seasonal needs.

2) Your Skin Feels Drier

Noni Morning Glow

If your skin has been feeling drier than usual lately, this is a sign that your skincare routine isn’t providing all of the moisturizing and conditioning agents that your skin needs. Dry skin indicates that your skin isn’t producing enough sebum. This is why the surface of your skin feels dry instead of soft and lubricated.

How does your skincare routine need to change to tackle this? Ideally, it should include more moisturizing products. Look for formulas that contain plenty of fatty acids, like the Avinichi Noni Morning Glow. This moisturizer is infused with shea butter – a fantastic source of essential fatty acids. These will not only leave your skin feeling smoother and more supple but they’ll also keep your skin barrier feeling supported and able to function more efficiently. This will help to optimize sebum production in the long run.

It’s also worth remembering that any moisturizer you use should be applied to damp, rather than dry, skin. Why? Because this helps to lock in those extra water molecules that are already sitting on your skin’s surface. It will give your skin an even brighter glow!

3) You’re Noticing More Acne Breakouts

Noni Clarifying Lather Purifier

While an increase in acne breakouts can be caused by a number of different factors, it’s also a sign that your skincare routine could do with some adjustments.

The first area to look at is your cleanser. If your skin still feels greasy after cleansing, you may need a more powerful formula. Foaming cleansers, like the Noni Clarifying Lather Purifier, are great for this, especially sulfate-free formulas that also provide a dose of antioxidants.

You’ll also need to ensure that the rest of the products in your skincare routine don’t contain pore-clogging ingredients. The more your pores end up clogged, the greater your chances of experiencing breakouts. If you suspect that one of your products may be to blame, do some research into its ingredient list, checking to see where each ingredient falls on the comedogenic scale. Any highly comedogenic ingredients, meaning that they have pore-clogging potential, should be avoided!

Finally, make sure that you’re sufficiently hydrating your skin. Dehydrated skin sometimes produces more oil than usual, exacerbating breakouts. Keep your skin quenched with products like the Super-Dewy Bead Serum from Avinichi’s Hydrating Mulberry Collection and your skin should start to feel much happier and better balanced.

4) Your Skin Feels More Sensitive Than Usual

Sensitivities can arise for various reasons, leading to the skin feeling irritated, inflamed, and uncomfortable. If your skin has been feeling more sensitive than usual, this indicates that your skin’s natural protective barrier has undergone some damage. It won’t be functioning as well as it should, which is why it’s now letting in irritants that are causing your new sensitivities.

What can you do about this? Firstly, strip back your skincare routine to the basics. You need to give your skin barrier some time to heal. This involves preventing it from coming into contact with irritants as much as possible. The fewer products you use, the fewer irritants you’ll be subjecting your skin to.

At the same time, the products that you do use should be geared toward keeping your skin barrier feeling supported and strengthened. Peptides do this exceptionally well. They’re a must in your skincare routine if your skin has been feeling sensitive. Sodium hyaluronate is another great ingredient to be using. Although it’s primarily known for its hydrating properties, it also leaves the skin barrier feeling thicker and more resilient.

You’ll find those ingredients, along with several other barrier-loving compounds, in the Hydrating Antioxidant Serum from the Avinichi Phyto Thermal Collection. The blend of antioxidants in this serum will also help your skin to feel healthier and able to function more efficiently.

5) Your Skin Has Been Looking Dull

Noni Polishing Peel

Ideally, your skincare routine should leave you with a radiant glow. However, if your skin looks just as dull when you’ve finished your routine as it did when you started, then this means that you need to make some changes to encourage your skin’s luminescence to once again shine.

How can you do this? Start by assessing your exfoliation regimen. With skin cell turnover declining with age, you may need to exfoliate a little more than you used to as you grow older. This will help to sweep away all of the dead cells that pile up on the skin’s surface and contribute to dullness. For even better results, use an exfoliant that also contains complexion-brightening ingredients, such as the Noni Polishing Peel from Avinichi. Thanks to a combination of vitamin A, vitamin C, and several botanical extracts, it will leave your skin looking revived.

Speaking of ingredients that brighten the complexion…

These are also worth incorporating into other stages of your skincare routine. A vitamin C serum, like the Avinichi Hydrating Multifruit C-Serum, is a great way to do this. Vitamin C is known for how it brightens the look of the skin. It does this even better when combined with other antioxidants, which is exactly what you’ll find in this serum!

6) Your Skincare Routine Feels Boring

String Lift Sculpting System

Your skincare routine should feel fun and enjoyable. It needs to be something that you look forward to doing each day, as this is the best way to motivate you to remain consistent with your skincare efforts.

However, sometimes, a skincare routine can start to feel a little boring. If yours now feels more like a chore than an indulgent experience, then it may be time to switch things up and inject some excitement back into that regimen.

How? One great way is to experiment with a type of product that you haven’t used before. The skincare industry is full of innovations, meaning that there’s probably plenty out there that you’ve never tried!

The Avinichi String Lift Sculpting System is one example. This system is designed to ramp up skin hydration levels. It does this with six different forms of hyaluronic acid – one of the most hydrating ingredients around. However, not only does it leave the skin looking bright and illuminated, but it also happens to be so much fun to use. You start by spraying the Golden Sculpting Serum onto your face and then carefully laying a few strands of the Elastic Collagen Threads over the areas of your face that need some TLC. You then spray the serum over the top of this and, as the threads begin to dissolve, you massage them into your skin.

Face masks can also be a good way to add an element of fun to your skincare routine. Whether you go for a leave-on mask, a sheet mask, a thermal clay mask, or anything else, they’ll make your routine feel a little more decadent and special.

7) Your Skincare Products Went Out of Date a While Ago

Even if you haven’t noticed any new skin concerns in a while, your skincare routine may still require an update if the products that you’re using have gone out of date. This is extremely common yet many people still choose to use expired products. In some ways, this is understandable – some of those products can be pretty pricey!

However, using expired products on your skin usually leads to more harm than good. Not only will your skincare routine fail to be as effective due to those active ingredients losing their potency, but some can end up oxidizing over time. Apply these to your skin and you’ll be contributing to free radical damage – a process that accelerates the rate at which your skin ages.

While you may not want to throw out a half-full jar of face cream or a bottle of serum that still has plenty of product left in it, it’s important to do so if those products have expired. A couple of times a year, spend some time sorting through your skincare stash and checking expiry dates. The best time to do this is when the seasons change because, as we mentioned earlier, your skincare routine will likely need to be adjusted at these times anyway.

Creating the Perfect Skincare Routine for Your Skin

It can be disheartening to realize that after finally managing to create the perfect skincare routine, it likely won’t be long before you’ll need to make some changes. However, it’s important that you remain vigilant when it comes to your skin’s constantly evolving needs. Consistently adapting your skincare routine to meet these new requirements is the key to ensuring that your regimen is encouraging your skin to thrive as much as possible.
